CERAMICS of EUROPE - KERAMIK EUROPAS - Westerwaldpreis 2009

The WESTERWALD PRIZE
  was first awarded in 1973 to present outstanding ceramic art and craft work
in the framework of a competition and exhibition at the Keramikmuseum Westerwald.
This remains a priority of the administration of the Westerwald region for the
12th WESTERWALD PRIZE in 2009.
A further aim is to promote the dialogue between ceramics and the arts in the region and to support cultural
exchange within Europe.


The Westerwald Prize

In 2009, five prizes are to be awarded for outstanding ceramic work in the following areas:
Saltglaze: stoneware and porcelain:
                      The Höhr-Grenzhausen Municipal Prize
Design / serially produced ware
Vessel / Form / Decor
Sculpture / Installation
Talent Award (up to the age of 35)

(applicable for all the above categories)

Four prizes worth EUR 5,000 each and
a Talent Award worth EUR 4,500 are to be awarded.

Schedule
18 Jan. 2009 Deadline for submission of entries including photographs;
     photographs to be entered without the maker's name but labelled with title and dimensions
     (minimum size: postcard size – maximum size DIN A4)

26 – 29 Jan. 2009 Judging of the photographs (selection of items for exhibition)
2 – 6 Feb. 2009 Notification of exhibitors
16 Feb. – 8 March 2009 Delivery of exhibits
16 – 18 March 2009 Judging (selection of prize-winners)
20 March 2009 Publication of prize-winners' names
28 Aug. 2009 Opening of exhibition, prize-giving ceremony (6 p.m.)
10 Jan. 2010 End of exhibition – follow-up exhibition
29 Aug. 2009 Colloquium "Ceramics 2009/2010" at the Keramikmuseum

Organisation


The competition and exhibition is under the kind patronage of the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of
Germany, Dr. Angela Merkel.


Exhibition and competition jointly organised by the administration of the Westerwald region and the
Keramikmuseum Westerwald.
Prize-giving and exhibition
The prizes and the certificates will be awarded at a ceremony to be held for the opening of the exhibition
"European Ceramics – WESTERWALD PRIZE 2009" at the Keramikmuseum Westerwald on 28 August 2009
at 6 p.m.

The colloquium will take place on 29 August 2009.
